Not everyone knows, that on the border of Germany, Luxembourg and Belgium there is a fantastic region of the Eifel, the western part of the Rhine Slate mountains up to 747 m high. Idyllic mountain and river landscapes, untouched nature of the average-German plateau, picturesque wine-making regions, medieval towns and romantic castles give the special originality to this reserved zone. This trip is for those, who want to see the refined nature of Germany — the massifs of volcanic mountains, divided by deep valleys of the rivers Rhine, Moselle, Lahn, Nahe: rare for today's Europe beechen and fir forests, the places, where the sources of the Gerolsteiner mineral water beat out of the ground, and brewers brew Bitburger beer. We recommend this travel, first of all, those, who want to have a rest from prompt city life and to feel a variety of faces of Europe.
In the program of our one-day excursion: The RHINELAND MUSEUM UNDER THE OPEN SKY is the real immersion in medieval life and livelihoods of country people of the Prussian province in the end of the 15th century. In the territory of 80 hectares, there are 65 historical buildings situated: country half-timbered houses, water and windmills; economic rural structures: smithy, school, bakery, dance hall, chapel. We will go along the ancient rural small streets from lodge to a lodge, receiving particulars of medieval life of the German peasants, and we will appear in the most interesting museum of the history - Rhineland- the Rhine region, which is called the heart of Germany. In addition, it is the most unusual wax museum in Europe. The fascinating excursion expects you inside, the characters, who made history, recreated in the form of waxworks in the museum: Napoleon, Prussian kings, Karl Marx, industrialist Krupp and many others. Where will you have an opportunity to bring home photos with the French emperor or the author of "Capital"?
The resort town Bad Muenstereifel is a heavenly spot at the Foothills of Eifel, which harmoniously fits a surrounding natural landscape. Thousand-year history of the city stores legends and myths, which you will be told by the guide, showing the most beautiful facades of half-timbered houses, an ancient town hall in Central Germany with unique "pillory". A thousand-year fortification, ancient churches, the destroyed castle, the crystal rivulet Erft, the fountain with the image of the Zwentibold King of Lotharingia, and, of course, cozy cafes and small restaurants with typical German cuisine, nourishing and tasty - all this is Bad Muenstereifel. In the city you will have free time, during which you can take amazing pictures, try local dishes and beer and also get unique souvenirs.
Then the Satzwey Castle is one of the most beautiful castles of the Rhine Region surrounded by the water ditches. Motto of the castle is "Preservation of the historical heritage through entertainment". Here the medieval fairs, "a sabbath of witches", Christmas and Easter holidays and, of course, knightly tournaments are still held!
Only an hour along the beautiful mountain road, and we are in fantastic Monschau. This city is situated only in 110 km from Duesseldorf, and it looks like it is lost in time. And it is determined by its surprising geographical location. Clamped in the narrow valley of Ruhr, surrounded by the mountain ranges of Eifel, it had no opportunity to extend and raise. Monschau remains its look created at 17-18 centuries. An old part of the city with about 300 houses, which are under protection of the state as architecture monuments, attracts like a magnet fans of walks, purchases and just judges of fine. The half-timbered buildings, sometimes hanging over the river, sometimes built as the bridge over the stream falling into the river, are a city highlight. We go for the excursion, to be exact for a romantic walk along the rivulet Ruhr. In fancifully bent small streets and lanes, behind the medieval half-timbered facades, there are many small galleries and boutiques, attracting us with their shop windows. Emperor Karl was here. The Russian tsar Peter III was shopping here... Town history and its many sights also, are connected with cloth and its history. All the roads in Monschau lead to the market square, filled with charming cafes and restaurants, the attracting local goodies, the international cuisine and very democratic prices. The guide will tell you about local mustard and a trout with a great pleasure. It’s just the time to have a bite...
Well, and now we go to AACHEN, the city of ancient legends and myths, in which unusual history legends fancifully intertwined with reality. It is as ancient diamond, who's each side from the history of its creation to the traditional national crafts – sparkles with some legend, frightening or amusing... and often connected with hot springs. We will begin our sightseeing tour with the curative sources. From Elisenbrunnen, where Peter I, Catherine the Great, Frederick the Great, Giacomo Casanova drank the Aachen water, to the Circulation of Money Fountain. And further to the Bahkauv (the Stream Calf). Past the Roman Arches to the fountain of Dolls, where all symbols of the city are collected to entertain children and adults. Here is the market square with its character - the Chicken Thief Fountain. On the way to Town Hall Square the oldest construction of Aachen is situated - the Tower Granusturm, built in 788 as a part of the imperial palace of Charles the Great. And at Town Hall Square - the fountain to Karl. And in the heart of the city, an outstanding example of sacral architecture - the Aachen Cathedral (Aachener Dom), which became the first German object included in the list of the World Cultural Heritage of UNESCO. It received this status in 1978. The guide will tell you a lot, and he will even explain, what do curious tourists try to grope in one of the lion's heads, decorating the doors of cathedral, pushing fingers there and enthusiastically exchanging impressions. For a dessert — the tale about gingerbread, which became Aachen truth. In the evening with the feeling of surprise and affection we leave these madly beautiful places to return here sometime again with relatives and friends.
